So anybody else playing a MM on CoV. I love my MM even if he does die easily. My solution to help with the dying, was to beef up his brawl, darkblast and healing (to keep the zombies "alive"). It works really well, except in PvP zones, where I get clobbered. Not that I go down without a fight (well sometimes..heh...). I usually give most hero types more of a struggle then they bargained for, but since a MM's hit points are so low it's only a matter of time....

What do you all think about the new MM archetype? Love it, hate it..etc..

Issue 7

Wondering if anyone has been on Test and tried out Issue 7?

I was able to try out Recluse's Victory for a little bit (the lag was driving me crazy so I left). i was really impressed with the zone and battles. I didn't see any of hte signature villians pop up but I was too busy looking for badges and exploring the zone. Later that night i was able to transfer my 39 villian onto the test and I cruised around Grandville. The zone blew me away the color, layout, and feel made any COH zone pale in comparison. Also standing in the meeting room with Lord Recluse, Ghost Widow, Mako, etc mad me feel like I was part of something bigger. Something COH is missing IMO.

Anyone try out the new archtype or even checked out the new costumes?

Hero Names

I have a couple questions regarding giving our super heroes names:

1. Can you use a name that's already been used but on a different server? Meaning, when a name is taken, is it taken for that server only or for the whole global CoH world?

2. If a character is deleted, does his/her name become available again? Or is it that once a name is taken, it can never be used by another player?

The Menagerie (a new villains group on the Liberty Server

Hi guys Indigo again. Our two teams of Exodus and The Agenda were doing so well that they are bordering on too well. I was forced to open the third team early. Our new VG is named "The Menagerie". The Menagerie is made of of beasts, monsters, animals and creatures of all shapes and sizes. This team like our 2 previous teams is open to all of our members who have transfered many of their more hideous and ghastly creations there in order to make room for YOU, our newest members, in our other two teams.
So If you have not already, the gates to the zoo are hanging wide open... feel free to wander in if you are brave enough and NOT man enough to enter our ranks.

Friday Floods

Usually, if you look at Bloody Bay in CoV, it's unloved. The rate of heroes ot Villains is about 3 to 1, and any brave or bloodthirsty villain dumb enough to poke their head in gets triple teamed like a bad porn flick, if they are very lucky.

We're gonna change all that.

On Virtue Server, we're beginning Friday floods. We are gathering the Coalitions, and getting down and dirty on some heroes, doing the missions that power the overconflicts and the individual battles that make the heroes cry at the same time.

If you hate heroes, as I do, please join us, or emulate Friday Floods on the server and PVP area of your choice. Do bring your coalitions though.

ok here's a question to all the gamers out there.

what kind of toons do you play on COH/COV and what is your favorite...

mine: i had a lvl 43 mace/invul tank, but i deleted her a few days ago..didnt like playing her anymore.

i have a lvl 25 ss/invul tank named dark-karma, a lvl 11 energy/energy blaster named kelly bundy, a lvl 8 dark/regen scrapper named mistress of karma, and i have some toons on COV but havent been in the mood to play COV in a while :)

my favorite: all of them because it gives me a range to play. :)

Thoughts on Character Debt

What do you all think of the character debt system on COH? Too harsh? Doesn't matter to you? Easy?

I don't mind a little debt, but sometimes when you get killed and it is SO not your fault (such as being on a team with a terrible healer, and you can't just quit the team -- or can you?). And when the debt lvls start to get above 25k, I start losing interest in playing that toon because I feel with limited game play I'll never be able to get that toon leveled up. I've been playing over a year and STILL do not have a toon higher than 28, largely for this reason.

What do you all think? Or do you not worry about after you've created your first lvl 50? Also, one you get a toon to the high 20s, how to you catch a second wind to carry you into the 30s and above? It seems like getting to 30 is nowhere in sight...

Hover vs. fly

I had a friend telling me that if you six slot hover you fly just as fast as reg fly but you also get the added defense. you would also want a travel power cause reg fly is slow as molasses, but i'm wondering if anyone else has used hover in the same way or simply prefers it for some other reason. thanks!

LOS ANGELES — Marvel Enterprises is suing two firms behind a computer superhero role-playing game it claims allows players to make virtual characters that are too similar to "The Hulk," "X-Men" and other heroes in the comic book company's stable.

The lawsuit claims South Korea-based NCSoft and San Jose-based Cryptic Studios violated Marvel's trademark characters in their game City of Heroes. Marvel seeks unspecified damages and an injunction against the two companies to stop using its characters.

The personal computer game enables players to design superheroes' look and abilities and then battle against other players' characters in a virtual city. Like similar so-called massively multiplayer role-playing games where thousands of players can be playing simultaneously at any given time, City of Heroes claims to offer a myriad of combinations so that no two players' characters are exactly the same.

But in its lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Marvel argues that the game's character creation engine easily allows players to design characters that are virtual copies of its own superheros, including "The Incredible Hulk."

The company singles out a game feature for creating "a gigantic, green, 'science-based tanker'-type hero that moves and behaves nearly identically" to the "Hulk." Players can also create a "mutant-based" hero powers and a costume nearly identical to Marvel's "Wolverine," according to the suit.

The New York-based company also took issue with the ability of players to go so far as to name their superhero creations after Marvel comic book characters.

Marvel claims the firms' are responsible because the game is played on servers operated by the companies, raising the question of whether a company is responsible for their customers' actions on its computer server.

Marvel also claims the companies have disrupted its "existing and future" business prospects for licensing its characters in video games similar to City of Heroes.

An e-mail sent to NCSoft seeking comment was not immediately returned after-hours Thursday. No number was listed for Cryptic Studios.

The Marvel lawsuit appears to be the first to raise this question in the scope of an online game. But early copyright infringement lawsuits brought by recording companies against pioneer file-sharing service Napster successfully argued Napster was liable for its customers' sharing of music online because they could do so only by accessing the company's computer system.

The argument can still be made that City of Heroes is only empowering users to the same degree that an establishment like Kinkos enables customers to make paper copies of copyrighted material, said Fred von Lohmann, senior intellectual property attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

"Is it a violation of copyright to make up a character in the virtual world or is that fair use?" von Lohmann said. "This is really untested ground in the courts."

Massive points

I've been fighting as a 20-22 in Independence Port on Justice with this lvl 22 scrapper. I'm a magic controller with bubb, invisi and phantom army, and the scrapper is a dark regen - an excellent combination. We added a defender that could heal and provide fortitude and endless endurance, and the combination kicks ASS for rapid points.

We've been taking on mobs of 27-29 and winning everytime with massive xp payouts. The trick of course, is endurance burn and to be sure that my bubbs never run out. Adding dispersian field really helped this too. That, and either sj or ss to get around IP quickly.

And here's a question - I wasted 15 minutes trying to find the dang trainer in IP based on what a book showed me, but never could find it. Is it in a building or outside? I ended up going to Steel to level up...

Seeing as I how dig Tribe.net folks better than others, I was curious if anyone has any good Supergroup recommendations. I was thinking mostly of a group on the Triumph server, but if there are some cool groups on others, I've characters I could advance there as well.

So, since I'm almost never here, but can be found on various CoH servers with some regularity, I've decided to post a list of my most commonly played characters, along with the server each is on. So here goes:

Heavy Waters:
-level: 19
-archetype: defender
-origin: mutation
-primary power set: radiation emission
-secondary power set: radiation blast
-Supergroup association: The Mutant Horde
-rank: DNA (leader)
-server: Liberty

The Great Satan:
-level: 11
-archetype: controller
-origin: magic
-primary power set: illusion control
-secondary power set: kinetics
-Supergroup association: REDRUM
-rank: The Cleaner (leader)
-server: Protector
It is worth noting that Great Satan is a super-badass. He has NEVER been beaten by anything that cons less than red, and has on several occasions defeated reds (solo).

Great Thoth:
-level: 6
-archetype: defender
-origin: magic
-primary power set: empathy
-secondary power set: psionic blast
-Supergroup association: none
-server: Protector

HuggyBear:
-level: 10
-archetype: scrapper
-origin: natural
-primary power set: martial arts
-secondary power set: super reflexes
-Supergroup association: That 70's SG
-rank: Pimp of the Year (leader)
-server: Triumph

Kojak:
-rank: 9 (about 1/2 a bubble from 10)
-archetype: tanker
-origin: natural
-primary power set: invulnerability
-secondary power set: super fighting (? something like that)
-Supergroup association: none
-server: Triumph

These are the 5 that I play most commonly, though I do have others that I play less frequently. Run into buildings alot though ;-)

So the real topic is favorite powers and/or power combo's. I love Flight but it is honestly my first move power...I have another Hero who is going for SuperSpeed and I expect I'll do a Leaper and a Teleporter too...

My favorite Combo's thus far is a Mind Control/FF Controller and a Shadow Melee/Regen Scrapper.
